Jennifer Connelly: Until last week she didn't even know that Labyrinth 2 was announced

It looks like Jennifer Connelly won't be returning to play Sarah in the upcoming Labyrinth 2.

Jennifer Connelly in a recent interview promoting Alita: Battle Angel, she was asked if she knew about the Labyrinth sequel.

When she was asked if she was interested in playing Sarah again in the upcoming Labyrinth 2, she Connelly looked pretty surprised and said, "I didn't even know, to be honest."

So, we are not aware that Jennifer Connelly will be returning as her character Sarah from the iconic Labyrinth unless something big enough happens in the near future.

It has been reported that the script for Labyrinth 2 is complete, but director Fede Alvarez recently clarified and revealed that a draft of the script is complete, meaning that a few rewrites will most likely be required before the production process begins. That said, Alvarez claims he never believes a script is truly finished and went on to say that the first draft they have is "unbelievable". It's also something Alvarez doesn't want to rush to, so he admits they're going to take their time.

1986's Labyrinth is a beloved classic, starring David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King. There has been talk of a sequel for decades, but nothing has crossed the line. In 2016, Nicole Perlman announced that she was writing the script for the sequel, but in 2017 it was revealed that Fede Alvarez would direct, as well as co-write the script with Jay Basu. Jim Henson's daughter Lisa Henson and David Bowie's son Duncan Jones will co-produce the long-awaited project.

As for the Labyrinth 2 story details, those obviously aren't available right now. However, Fede Alvarez has revealed that the project will not be a reboot and will instead be a continuation of the first film. Alvarez didn't delve further, but said he was really happy with what he and the Hensons had come up with. Obviously, David Bowie cannot be involved since he sadly passed away in 2016. Just like Ghostbusters 3, which will start shooting soon, Alvarez has a rather massive task ahead of him that will be incredibly difficult to complete.

Labyrinth was not a box office success at the time of its 1986 release. The film didn't even recoup its initial $25 million budget, but that all changed when the film was released on video. Since then, the film has become a cult classic that still sells out in anniversary screenings today. Taking on a sequel over 30 years after the original with none of the original human cast is a pretty big bet. Maybe the puppets will be back as soon as I am able to. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't look like Jennifer Connelly will be involved.
